CJT Timber Sourcing Ltd is a fourth-generation British timber manufacturer and supplier, built on more than 75 years of continuous industry heritage. The company represents the modern evolution of two established timber businesses Clifford Jones Timber Ltd and Hunter Wilson Ltd unified under one forward-thinking brand focused on quality, sustainability, and UK manufacturing strength.
Today, CJT is recognised as one of the UK’s leading producers of machine-rounded timber products, supplying agricultural, fencing, Laminated playground equipment, landscaping, and infrastructure markets nationwide.
A Fourth-Generation British Timber Business
CJT Timber Sourcing is proudly a 4th generation, family-rooted British timber business, with its origins dating back to 1948. Starting and founded by Clifford Jones using ex-army trucks modified into timber cranes.
- 1962- Alan Jones joined the company as a crane driver and timber buyer taking over from Clifford Jones his dad in 1987. Installing a new peeler and treatment tank with 3 full time employees Clifford Jones Timber was Born.
- 1984 – Richard Jones Current chairman joined the family business at the age of 16, starting as a lorry driver before progressing through the business as Production Manager and learning every detail of the production facility along the way. Before taking over as chairman in 2016 After his dad Alan retired.
- 2016- Alex Sambrook Jones – Joins the business as the 4th Generation starting as a Production Operative before progressing to Timber Buyer in 2020. Alex has gone on to progress and follow in His fathers and grandfathers’ footsteps and become Head of Production and Forestry.
Across four generations, the business has evolved through:
- Post-war British timber production and sawmilling
- Expansion into national fencing and agricultural supply chains
- Industrial-scale manufacturing and timber preservation

Our Heritage
Clifford Jones Timber Ltd (Established 1948)
Founded in North Wales, Clifford Jones Timber became one of the UK’s most established timber manufacturers.
It grew into a major supplier of:
- Machine-rounded fence posts
- Agricultural and rural fencing timber
- Laminated Playground and construction timber.
- Large-scale UK timber production
The business became known for its strong commitment to British-grown timber, rural industry support, and efficient use of UK forestry resources.
Hunter Wilson Ltd (Established 1971)
Hunter Wilson, based in Gretna, Scotland, specialised in timber machining and treatment.
In 2005, it was integrated into the Clifford Jones Timber Group, expanding manufacturing capacity and strengthening supply across the UK.
It contributed:
- Advanced machining and treatment operations
- Increased Scottish production capability adding a further 6 machine rounders to Clifford Jones’s 5 machine rounders making them one of the largest UK manufactures.
- Stronger national distribution coverage.
- The ability to purchase more sustainable sourced material across the UK.
CJT Timber Sourcing
In 2023–2024, CJT Timber Sourcing Ltd was formed to bring together the legacy operations of Clifford Jones Timber and Hunter Wilson into one unified, modern UK manufacturer.
This transition preserved decades of British industrial expertise while creating a stronger, more agile business for the future.
A new senior management team is assembled to oversee continued growth across new business along with the old business acquisitions.
Ben Parton takes over as Managing director after 14 Years with Clifford Jones Timber Ltd. He is supported by his Senior Management team, Bringing decades of experience to providing the best quality product and service for customers.
The vision is clear – Sustainable locally sourced material, backed by quality and countenances treated with the highest quality preservative available Tanalith E. ensuring that customer service and communication is in all the senior managements thoughts.

Timber Treatment – Tanalith E (WPA Approved)
All treated timber is preserved using Tanalith E, a Wood Protection Association (WPA) approved preservative system.
This ensures:
